What Happens in VAGAS

SO I'd like to start off by apologizing for this feature being posted so late. There were a few technical difficulties but we are back on track and running 100's again!

We started off this year by getting in contact with Gavin Haywood, world-renown 3D "renderer" and founder of the VAGAS movement which he started here in the Cape. Gavin is not really on the scene much but after myself and Jarred Williams from HoodRide SA contacted him, he agreed to meeting up with us for some photos, with Shaakir joining us with his Beetle and Ramiz with his bagged G5.

I'm sure most of you have seen pictures floating around on Facebook of Gavin's Mk1, I mean how could you not - it really stands out from the rest. But no one has really seen it in the metal, and this is the first time it is being featured, along with the feature that will be on HoodRide SA in the near future. Gavin decided to go for a different look, combining some retro and rat styles to create something unique.

Gavin is very much a DIY type of person, and most of the work you see done to it was done by himself, even the rusted bonnet he did himself. That's right - its REAL rust, not vinyl as many people think it is.

He has also fabricated some of his own parts and had things made, such as his door cards and other interior details.

The way the car has been styled tells two different stories, the one half of the car tells the retro side and the other the rat side. The left hand side has the original Audi hubcaps on 14" steelies, the side GT stripes and half of the roof done in checker. The right hand side sees the front fender sprayed brown, the open 14" steelies and the yellow fog light, along with the rusted bonnet. All brought together by the green-blue "Chico" paintwork. And boy does it work well.

For the rear, Gavin's creativity really came into play. He took on a task which no one else has thought of, by cutting the standard "Chico" rear lights and creating a new/old spec type of light. As far as we know this is a world first, and it really does look good! The car sits on TA coilovers front and rear with pretty much no wheelgap. Perfect!

Subtle Stunner - Mujaahid's Static Accord

 My obsession with this Accord started at about 2am on a Sunday morning, we had just arrived at the Bellville Velodrome to prepare for the Streetmods Motor Show. The Show had promised to be an awesome event, with quality rides. Walking around to meet and greet in the corner of my eye, there it was, Mujaahids Accord! 

Once getting to know Mujaahid and the history of the car, we all knew this was a feature. I had recently called Mujaahid and arranged a shoot, with a fellow brother from Hoodride SA, Jarred Williams, who took a road trip from Johannesburg to Cape Town( just over 1000km) to also feature the Type S on Hoodride SA.

Cape Town, South Africa is one of the many places that were blessed with way too many potholes and speed humps just around every corner. Many people have asked if this Accord was bagged because of the ride height, but no! This Type S is static!

To achieve the height that this Accord sits at, a set BC Coilovers were fitted. And believe it or not, this is not the lowest it can go! As mentioned before, because of our wonderful roads, Mujaahid is not able to drive any lower, or he would be taking home chunks of tar daily!

The Type S sits perfectly on the tar, its like a well prepared cocktail! With a combination of front and rear tuck with just a pinch of camber to give it the perfect flavor!

After blowing the motor of his superbike and soon becoming a married man, Mujaahid looked for a car that was different but also practical, and which he knew he could customize and make it look awesome. After seeing this Type S, he fell inlove and just had to have it.

Mujaahid hasn't stopped with a good looking stance car, the mod bug had bitten him so he fitted a 63mm into 57mm Powerflow catback, a K&N Typhoon Induction Kit with Injen dry charger and a Unichip fitted and tuned by Topend racing. After putting the car on the dyno, it made 168kw and 240nm.

Now that performance was sorted, the looks needed to be sorted. After looking at many Accord's and TSX's on the international websites, Mujaahid had an idea of the look he was going for, and fitted a set of BBS LM reps, 8.5j all round. To get the ride height right, a set of BC Racing BR Series coilovers was fitted.

Mujaahid still has a few plans left for the Accord which should be set into place soon, so we can't wait to see how this car will evolve in the next few months! Seeing that the car is part of Casual Society, we know it will be nothing short of epic!

Davin Pick's Green Street-Hooligan

The trend that seems to be now, is Mk1, and another example of a clean yet classy is Davin Picks Mk1 Rabbit.
I first spotted Davin slithering through in traffic, my jaw dropped, my eyes popped and the hunt to find this car was on. It had taken me two hours ( that felt like two days) to get his details and the deal was sealed, shoot was planned, location sorted, cameras batteries charged and ready to go.

The little green goblin is an eight month build that has now finally made its mark in Cape Town, for those who don't know Davin is originally from George, an area just outside of Cape Town and moved he to the Cape about Five years ago, and are we glad that he did!

There are too many things to say about Davin and his ride, so just like he did with his build, I will keep it simple!

The car is a 1978 Mk1 Golf, and for a lady of her age one cannot expect a gem, but with time and patience this beauty has been fully restored with new old parts. Every panel inside and out has been replaced leaving her in pristine condition.

Davin has a few more tricks up his sleeve. There are a few minor changes taking place on the Rabbit soon, to enhance the appearance and make her even more appealing to the eye.

A 1.8litre fuel injected power lump has been fitted, making a sexy ride, sitting pretty on Tuning Art coilovers,  et 7j upfront and et 8j's schmidts in the rear all wrapped up on Nankang 195/45/15 rubbers!

Dav has also informed me that he has already started a second build, also with a VW badge attached to it! And hey, I called dibbs for a feature!
All in all it was an awesome day, with an awesome car but for now, enjoy the pics of the green street hooligan..
