JUST FOR THE MADNESS

It was in 1927 that history was made in terms of the BMW motorcar. The first car was built by Austin, and was the same as the US Bantam and the Japanese Datsun. Although BMW's current fame and reputation as the greatest automobile manufacturers can only be related to cars produced in the last twenty years or so, the history of Bavaria Motor Works stretches back almost ninety years.

We could spend days going on and on about the countless merits and achievements of BMW and the undeniably awesome motor vehicles they produce, but let's not stray to much off the topic at hand.

There aren't many models and vehicle brands that have gone through as many transformations as the iconic M3. The M3 moniker is still one of the most respected, most admired and most feared badges across all forms of motoring.

The M3 brand on its own is a successful franchise, having designed models from the e30 to the e93, and the design concept has always remained the same - "Build a damn good car".

Sulaiman has had his fair share of the "M" range, his first car being the absolutely legendary BMW 325is. Those who knew the car can back me up by saying in was the best example of what the 325is should have looked like. Sulaiman used the car as a daily runner, yet each day it looked as if he had just pulled off from the red carpet on the show room floor. Now we all understand that change is inevitable, and there comes a time in a mans life he has to part with the one thing he protects even more than a sibling......his first car.

Upgrading to a new car was not an easy task. As explained to me he was hunting for a clean E36 or E46 M3, and after countless calls and failed attempts in purchasing one, a huge step for man took place.

Sulaiman found comfort in a V8 E92 M3. Stock was not an option, a software upgrade took place as well as a Gruppe M induction kit, taking the car into the 12sec bracket at a quarter mile meet. Sadly though, the car was totaled one night, many tears were shed, but hey we move on.

Sulaiman, loyal to the "M" badge, moved into an E93 M3 convertible where he then fitted the AC Schnitzer exhaust, Vorsteiner bootlid, Vorsteiner front spoiler and rear diffuser while sorting it on matte black 20" ADV1's hoops.

This man has grown so fond of the V8 rumble that he decided to trade the convertible for another E92 M3, the one we see today. It came from the factory in Sparkling Graphite but is now wrapped in matte lime. When we asked him "Why lime Sulaiman?" his reply was "For the madness."

An RD Motorsport front bumper, Vorsteiner bonnet, Vorsteiner boot and Hamman rear diffuser was then fitted to suit his aesthetic and individualistic needs. An AC Schnitzer exhaust system replaced the stock variant to expel the exhaust gasses more efficiently, and more importantly to make that V8 rumble a tad bit louder. Rolling stock is a set of 20" Vossen CV7's in a matte graphite finish

Some would call him crazy going with Lime green as a color for the M, well then call me crazy too, because I'm in love with this car, and personally I cannot wait for Sulaiman's next build.

Special thanks to Lorenzo Lakay as well as Basheer Khan for the hookup of the location.

CAPESTANCE SLAMOMETER II

CapeStance Slamometer II (Saturday, 6th Apr)
There’s been rumours going around that the lack of activity on the site, hosting events or even the attendance to hookups means that CapeStance is dead or broken up. However, this is quite the opposite. 2013 brings a year with loads of change and loads of new surprises and game-changing moves being made. The first of these actions that would put these rumors to an end is the long awaited Slamometer II.
Slamometer was introduced last year as a result of the ridiculous increase in the monotonous hookups that were hosted all through the cape, every weekend. The Slamometer was born in order to resolve and spice the game up just a little and also just to establish who is really reshaping the tar on the streets and those who need to up their game by getting closer with Mother Nature.
Like we have proven through our track record, when we do something we always give our best as a familia and aim to either reach new benchmarks or completely change the game. Last year, the Slamometer was held in a private business park and in an underground parking which was completely unexpected. This year, we have something a bit more special in store.
Be sure to be there and experience the First real Stance Event of 2013 hosted in the mother city - Cape Town.
Date: 6th April 2013, Saturday
Time: 4pm-8pm
Location: Tekton, Parow in King Edward Street opposite Parow Mark

Icing Sugar - Yunus Sweet Candy MK6 GTi

At Capestance we are always trying to bring you cars that are fresh on the scene, cars that we very seldom see at hookups or events. I must admit, I myself haven't seen this MK6 Gti to the day the shoot was scheduled. We've seen random camera phone snaps and could acknowledge that this is a clean quality MK6, but pictures do this car no justice.

Yunus followed a simple recipe with his Gti. The "less is more" concept. Keeping it simple with subtle touches that enhance the character of the over manufactured MK6 Gti that we know and admire.

Yunus not only enhanced its appearance, but its soul as well. Giving it a software upgrade, fitting a down pipe, induction and exhaust.

I could speak about the 595 (the cars street name) and not get bord, but let me shut my trap and enjoy the pics that follow!

Towards the front, Yunus added a Reiger lip and de-badged the grill giving it more of
an aggressive look.

Walking slowly around it, just looking at how well it all fit together. The 19inch HRE wheels wrapped in fresh low profile 225/25/19 Yokohama S Drives.

The H&R lowering kit closing the gap between the wheel and arches.

Carbon fibre rear wing sprayed white.
Which I personally think looks much better color coded on this car.

A little birdy told us he approves...

What Happens in VAGAS

SO I'd like to start off by apologizing for this feature being posted so late. There were a few technical difficulties but we are back on track and running 100's again!

We started off this year by getting in contact with Gavin Haywood, world-renown 3D "renderer" and founder of the VAGAS movement which he started here in the Cape. Gavin is not really on the scene much but after myself and Jarred Williams from HoodRide SA contacted him, he agreed to meeting up with us for some photos, with Shaakir joining us with his Beetle and Ramiz with his bagged G5.

I'm sure most of you have seen pictures floating around on Facebook of Gavin's Mk1, I mean how could you not - it really stands out from the rest. But no one has really seen it in the metal, and this is the first time it is being featured, along with the feature that will be on HoodRide SA in the near future. Gavin decided to go for a different look, combining some retro and rat styles to create something unique.

Gavin is very much a DIY type of person, and most of the work you see done to it was done by himself, even the rusted bonnet he did himself. That's right - its REAL rust, not vinyl as many people think it is.
He has also fabricated some of his own parts and had things made, such as his door cards and other interior details.

The way the car has been styled tells two different stories, the one half of the car tells the retro side and the other the rat side. The left hand side has the original Audi hubcaps on 14" steelies, the side GT stripes and half of the roof done in checker. The right hand side sees the front fender sprayed brown, the open 14" steelies and the yellow fog light, along with the rusted bonnet. All brought together by the green-blue "Chico" paintwork. And boy does it work well.

For the rear, Gavin's creativity really came into play. He took on a task which no one else has thought of, by cutting the standard "Chico" rear lights and creating a new/old spec type of light. As far as we know this is a world first, and it really does look good! The car sits on TA coilovers front and rear with pretty much no wheelgap. Perfect!

But now I will let the pictures do the talking. Included are some photos of Shaakir's Beetle. Hope you enjoy!

The man himself - Gavin Haywood!
