After Spring Stance 2011, A few good looking VW’s set off on an unplanned cruise to snap some pics and just do what we do best, chill. We headed off to Century City in search of a back drop to photograph the cars.
Only a select few in Cape Town have managed to perfect the formula “keep it simple”.
Lets share a portion of the recipe...
Abdul Mallick’s 82’ Mk1 Golf L , shows some fine quality characteristics, the colours used complement each other well, the Red Steelies says alot about Abdul’s taste, yet some fail to understand, but for those who do, can only appreciate the Time and effort put into this true mk1 2 door.
The motor is original, just as it left the Utinhage plant in P.E in 1982. The suspension was upgraded to Tuining Art Coilovers and to compliment the slam is a set of custom narrow and wide blood red Steelies. The front sports 6j wide and the rear is widened out to a massive 8j. The wheels are wrapped in some stretched 195/45/15 hero tyres. Futures plans includes a ABF 16V lump with a set of Sides-drafts to give it a that pure old school feel.
Zainny boy, the man only some can get along with, is not shy of hiding his opinions when it comes to styling a Volkswagen. He has only one vision for his Volkswagen and that is; “Less is More”. Over time his 04’ 1,4i Citi transformed into some real eye candy. At first glance, one perceives a clean car with clean lines and unique styling cues. This citi doesn’t follow any styling trends, it is just a one of a kind Volkswagen in the mother City. His Ruby Red citi has a few engine upgrades which makes his 1.4i quite a hand full. The Suspension was upgraded to Koni Springs and Ian Glass Alpine road/race dampeners which provides a low stance and more than enough grip to have fun in the corners. Zain sourced a set BBS RS764, which he sprayed Mexican beige, while leaving the outside lip high polished. To Compliment the wheels a matching colour strip was added.
Future plans consist of a mean 2.0 upgrade that will be a force in its own right.
Fahad’s citi.... what a contrast of colours. Fahad spent many hours in customising his BBS RS764 to achieve something very unique. The colour he chose was violet purple which really stands out against the deep black body work.
The BBS wheels are roiling on conti 195/45/16. While the motor is still bone stock, the suspension has been tweaked with some Tuning Art coil-overs.
Some of the cosmetic changes consist of Grey GT stripes, Webasto tilt and Slide sunroof and Black out grill and badge. Smoked Headlights\ Indicators stick with the murdered theme of the car and a Mk2 Jetta CL Lip finishes of the front bumper. Smoked R-line Taillights do the necessary at the rear. Fahad has a few more tricks up his sleeve which is yet to be revealed.
Wolly’s Anthracite blue citi, has recently come out of its shell somewhat. A slam, tuck and poke is provided by a set of Tuning Art Techniques Coilovers.
In motion it relies on some phat custom steelies which are still under construction. The front is 6.5j and the rear is a crazy 8.5j covered in Stretch with a set of Falken 195/45/15 shoes. Colour change is on the cards so...watch this space
“It’s not what you buy...but what you build”
We all appreciate the Volkswagen Brand, but there is one specific model that changed the motoring world, it is none other than the Mk1 GTI. Mehboob better known as Boobie was one of the lucky few, to get his hands a on 84’ Mk1 GTI. It was bored out to a 2.0 from the stock 1800 and runs on the old faithful K-Jet electronic fuel injection. The body was recently touched up and all surface rust removed, Boobie has kept the GTI in stock form, both interior and exterior. Future plans include a set of original 16inch Borbet rims and coil over suspension.
Tins 2.0i has a well presented appearance in OEM + fashion, this car needs no introduction as it already has a well established name for its self.
Keep following, as there is more in the pipe line!
